He was also deeply involved in different communities, including the Nashville Vanderbilt Alumni Club Board of Directors, the Vanderbilt Commodore Club, and Gridiron Club.
In addition to an illustrious career and deep community involvement, David has kept travel as a constant in his life. TRAVEL STORY
“In Australia, where I worked for Corning a month in their TV bulb factory, a Corning manager had become friend of Australia's Minister of Labour, William McMahon, who was a bachelor engaged to a beautiful lady, Sonia Hopkins. The Corning manager and his wife invited me, Bill McMahon, and Sonia to dinner at a fine Sydney restaurant, after which we were invited ended up in Sonia's Botany Bay apartment overlooking the beach. It was a wonderful evening with the man who became Prime Minister of Australia and his lovely bride-to-be Sonja, who became the Jackie Kennedy/Princess Diane of Australia. Bill McMahon gave me me fantastic introductions for my subsequent visits to Adelaide and Melbourne.”
